As I read American history, I am frequently angered by the cowardly acts of military leaders and others and wonder how America ever succeeded in becoming one of the Lord’s highly blessed top nations just as the Lord promised Israel in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:1-6 and 11, that Israel was to be an example to other nations and our founders got the message. Can I prove this? I don’t have to prove it because America’s founders have already proved it!
Before the Obama administration, America was widely respected as the world’s leading power. Now America seems to be losing respect daily. America won our independence from England in 1783 but it wasn’t until the end of the War of 1812 that America had England’s respect. The English burned the White House after America beat itself while attacking Canada; but, then America won battles over Britain all over the place in Lake Champlain, Lake Erie, the Northwest, New Orleans and while Britain had hundreds of ships, America’s little fleet won significant victories over them.
Considering all this, just how was it America became the world power it was? If Jesus Christ is the answer and always has been and always will be the answer and always will be the Great Governor of the Universe created through him and which he now rules, why would anyone be so ignorant as to turn against him and try to be successful in their own flesh? Psalm 2 teaches us the Lord laughs at those who try!
America became a world powerhouse because our founders and leadership, for the most part, placed their trust in Jesus Christ until our rebellion in 1963. I don’t need to prove America rebelled either because statistics on the decline of America’s moral values prove it. Crime, divorce, loose sexual morals, child abuse, stat scores, ethical problems, loose morals of political leadership, and on and on, all prove it. 1962 and 63 is when America’s Supreme Court thumbed their noses at the Lord and said we will no longer follow your ways and took prayer and then the Bible out of public schools which were established to teach Christianity! You can find more about all this in my e book, America, Christ’s Top Nation Has Fallen.
Just about every decision in early America was a step in faith beginning with the Christians that came to America searching for a home free of persecution. In 1641 after the Pilgrims, Puritans and others were here, they met to form a loose federation and stated whereas we have all came into these parts for the same ends and means which is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ! Please consider that statement, for an example of anything resembling our federal government. Later, the Lord was called on by these men as they wrote the Declaration of Independence and designed our government around our Constitution, which our founders considered a miracle of God.
At almost every turn America stepped out in faith in our Lord. They were not afraid to take on the mighty nation of England with no Army or Navy because of their faith. When they did form the armed forces they relied on faith to provide the provisions, weapons and pay. The men who enlisted suffered greatly with improper clothing in harsh winters while subsisting on low rations as they waited for promised pay and then many served well beyond their enlistments because of patriotism. I marvel at how we ever won our independence and we couldn’t have without Christ’s help. George Washington often gave our Lord the credit for victory and for saving his life. He said it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Lord.
Now that America’s leadership relies on scheme after scheme of men even as America tries to remove Christianity from everything, America has no right to then expect the prosperity, peace and protection we had before our rebellion. To expect better results from the practice of the same old schemes of men and never learning over and over defines stupidity!
Let us look at some scripture regarding what is happening to America:
A. John 8:36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Man’s schemes to set us free to practice what the Bible states are sins or abominations enslaves us not frees us. There is no freedom in enslavement to Satan’s ways because punishment comes from the Lord for following Satan’s ways.
B. The Lord’s blessings come from following His ways. That is why Deuteronomy 28’s first fourteen verses of promises of blessing if Christ’s ways are followed are then followed by 53 verses of curses if you do not follow his ways! Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
C. America is suffering because we follow the flesh. Keep in mind a nation is a collection of men. Romans 8:5-8 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
D. The Lord will again bless America in mighty ways if America repents and seeks His favor again. Romans 8:28 and 31: -we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God and If God is for us, who is against us?
In this five part series I have tried to show America our rebellion against Christ’s ways, America’s miracle of doubling production in five years during World War II when Christ was with America, how life was easier for Americans before our rebellion, how America cannot prosper unless we return to Christ and lastly how faith in men’s schemes cannot help America. What is happening in America is a tale of supreme tragedy and America’s story gets more tragic by the day as one would expect from over 55 million abortions among other things.
The choice has never been clearer. Repent and return to Christ and proper or stay on our current path of rebellion and America’s tragic story will get worse by the day.
