1/21/14 The Foundational Truth of Psalm 2

All Scripture is NASB
Last Sunday my pastor’s sermon mentioned Christ is the answer, which is one of my favorite subjects, and that got me thinking. If Christ is the answer, then the Bible is also the answer because John 1:14 tells us, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:3 and Colossians 1:15-17 tells us that nothing came into being that came into being without coming into being thru Christ. John 1:4 tells us In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men or in other words, Christ, and God’s Word had all the answers man would need to live an abundant and fulfilling life in His creation!
All this gets more and more interesting. Consider this. There would be no questioners in the world if they had not been created by Christ. Doesn’t logic then lead us to conclude that a Loving Lord Creator would also leave man with all the answers man would need in His creation? Scripture like the following astounds me. Joel 2:12-13 tells us that even in the Lord’s long delayed day of wrath on the earth, the Lord offers love:
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD,
“Return to Me with all your heart,
And with fasting, weeping and mourning;
13 And rend your heart and not your garments.”
Now return to the LORD your God,
For He is gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness
And relenting of evil.

Man’s problem is that, for the most part, he has no clue of how loving his Creator Lord is and all the ways He shows his love. Know that your Lord and Savior, who knew you before He created the world for you, has kept track of your every tear (Psalm 56:8), every hair (Luke 12:7), every thought, every move and everything about you (Psalm 139)!
Paul tells us the history of Israel is there to instruct us who follow in 1 Corinthians 10:1-6 and 11. For instance when Moses said to select men who fear God (Exodus 18:21) for leaders; that was absolutely life saving great advice. God’s Word tells us over and over why Fear of the Lord is necessary for the life our Great Governor wants us to have. For instance fear of The Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. Proverbs 9:10: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
When I think about how Christ is the answer that comes with Fear of The Lord, I am drawn to a really neat Psalm that pretty much sums up the Old Testament teaching about all this. Here is Psalm 2:
Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”
10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the LORD with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Today, America is in an uproar because of devising vain things like trying to end poverty apart from Christ when the Lord advised Moses that poverty would not be a problem in the land the Lord was giving them because he would bless them. Failure in the war on poverty was guaranteed because man thought they could do it on their own when in fact America had just rebelled against the Lord.
America is now attempting to make one of God’s blessings, insurance, be something different and have it still work. The government is trying to put people who are already sick in health insurance. Insurance is meant to be a group of people who are not sick sharing funds to insure against not getting sick. Comparing this to auto insurance, it would be pretending that a wrecked car is as good as undamaged cars already insured. Of course what we now have is no longer insurance which is efficient but another overly expensive, inefficient government welfare program.
What a mess and the answer as usual is a return to Jesus Christ, The Great Governor. 2 Chronicles 7:14 promises if we will repent and return to Him, he will heal our nation and America is in such a mess, only Christ can now heal America. 2 Chronicles 7:14 promises if: My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. We can’t do this on our own, but He can!
